Every writer’s journey begins somewhere—mine began in the dark.
As a child, I was raised on a steady diet of horror: dog-eared paperbacks borrowed from library shelves, late-night films viewed from behind half-closed fingers, and the irresistible tug of stories that dared to explore the things we’re taught to fear. While other children sought sunshine, I found myself drawn to the quiet corners where shadows pooled and imaginations ran wild.
Decades later, not much has changed.
Before I returned to the world of words, I spent more than thirty years in banking and finance—an ironic profession for someone who once recoiled at the very mention of Mathematics. But even then, as I sat beneath fluorescent lights and spreadsheets, the Gothic clung to me like a familiar perfume. Old buildings whispered. Forgotten lives called out. Stories lingered.
Eventually, I listened.
Now, as an English teacher and independent author, I devote my days to exploring the darker side of human nature through literature, language, and history. Social history in particular—those fragile threads of ordinary lives woven quietly between the grand narratives—pulls at my heart in a way little else can. There’s something profoundly moving in the voices time almost erased.
I’ve always found beauty in the macabre. In the hush of graveyards. In the cool breath of old stone. In the idea that even the bleakest story carries a heartbeat, a flicker of humanity burning stubbornly at its core.
This website will be my home for all things Gothic, grotesque, and wonderfully grim: reflections on writing, glimpses into the strange corners of history, updates on my work, and the occasional ramble through the darker alleyways of the imagination.
If you’ve ever felt comfort in the candlelit gloom, or sensed poetry lingering in the silence between footsteps—then you’re in the right place.
Welcome, reader.
Step inside. The shadows are waiting.
